Here’s the Toyota Auris Wagon. In 2012-2013, when they discontinued the Matrix. I hoped for everything that Toyota would bring this over as a Matrix replacement. 3 years later, they brought a regular Auris in the form of the iM. So. Um. Ok. Gee thanks Toyota.
And then the dream wagon.

As I mentioned yesterday, even the Auris as a hatchback looks better as a Toyota than as a Scion. Not that the scion is terrible, mind you. But still, this looks good:

My two favorite Toyota wagons:
The Caldina GT-Four, 260hp 3S-GTE, AWD, and like seemingly all good things, JDM only. Those filthy Canadians can have one of these in two years. The bastards.
And the S60-70 Crown Station Wagon, which has what is unquestionably the prettiest rear end in wagon history.
And as far as dream wagons go:
The answer is always Autech Stagea 260RS. Because R33 GT-R wagon. Well, R33 engine and transmission, R32 ATTESA computer Wagon, but still, GT-R wagon. If I had a ton of money (and lived in a country that wasn’t scared of good things), I’d buy one of these, take it to MINE’S or Matchless Crowd, say “go nuts” and have the world’s most practical 800 horsepower daily driver. And I would daily it, since it’s really just a slightly longer, slightly heavier GT-R, and that chassis/drivetrain can not only take that kind of power, but remain well-mannered and easily drivable.

It’s a strange car to wish for. There are so many better wagons in the same segment available on the (European) market. The only redeeming quality of the Auris, to some, is that you can get it
with
the Prius drivetrain
without
the Prius body.
